SC gives 3 weeks to Tejpal to collect evidence for defence

New Delhi, Jan 16 (IBNS): The Supreme Court on Friday directed a trial court to adjourn the case of Tehelka founder Tarun Tejpal, who is accused of raping a junior colleague, for three weeks and the Goa police to hand over documents to him so that he can argue his case.

Tejpal had petitioned the top court on Thursday with a plea that the Goa court was proceeding with the sexual assault case though he had not received the evidence and papers needed for his defence.

The documents included unedited camera footage and phone records on which the police have based the charge-sheet.

Earlier, the Apex Court had ordered the lower court to hold daily hearings and decide the case within eight months.

The Tehelka founder was charge-sheeted for allegedly raping a woman colleague during an event at a Goa hotel in November, 2013. He was given bail in July last year.
