SC denies CBI permission to argue on points left out on Uphaar fire tragedy

New Delhi, Aug 20 (IBNS) The Supreme Court has rejected the appeal of the Central Bureau of Investigation to make the pending arguments for the Uphaar fire tragedy case, reports said.
Claiming that they did not get enough time to argue for the case, the CBI had sought time  to present their statements.

The apex court has asked the central agency  to file a review plea in the case.

The SC's observations come a day after it refused to send the key accused in the Uphaar case to jail.

"It will not be proper. We have already passed the order," a three-judge bench headed by Justice A R Dave said after CBI lawyer  Harish Salve sought 15 minutes time to argue some of the points in the matter.

The SC had on Wednesday said that theatre owners - Sushil & Gopal Ansal will not be spending any further time in jail.

The top court imposed a fine of Rs 60 crore on the Ansal brothers.

Altogether 59 people died, mostly due to suffocation, and 103 were seriously injured in the resulting stampede following the fire in the cinema hall in Delhi's Green Park area in 1997.
