SC allows rape survivor to terminate 24-week pregnancy

New Delhi, July 25 (IBNS): Giving a major judgement, the Supreme Court on Monday allowed an alleged rape survivor that she could terminate her 24-week pregnancy due to an abnormal foetus.

The court cited a report submitted by a Mumbai hospital's medical board and said that continuing pregnancy might endanger the life of woman.

The order was given by a bench headed by  justice JS Khehar.

The board of seven doctors reportedly observed that the foetus was a danger for the health of the mother.

The court had earlier directed the Mumbai hospital to form a panel of experts to examine the petitioner.
