Saradha case: Former Kolkata top cop Rajeev Kumar might get killed, says Congress' Somen Mitra

Kolkata: Amid the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)'s hunt for former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar in the Saradha chit fund case, West Bengal Congress president Somen Mitra feared Kumar might get killed.

Issuing a statement, Mitra said, "Rajeev Kumar might get killed. He was accused of destroying the evidences of the case. Several key influencial Trinamool Congress leaders went to jail in connection with the case.

If Rajeev Kumar gets arrested, several top Trinamool leaders' name will come up. The Chief Minister herself had resorted to dharna at Metro Channel to save Rajeev Kumar. So we fear the killing of Rajeev Kumar."

The CBI is searching Kumar, the Additional Director General (ADG) of Police, who is not traceable right now.

Rejecting the anticipatory bail, the court said Kumar can now be arrested without any warrant.

The former top cop is accused of destroying evidences related to the chit fund scam.

Earlier on Feb 3, when the CBI had approached Kumar's residence for questioning, the officers of the federal probe agency were whisked away by the Kolkata Police. Later West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had resorted to a sit-in protest or dharna in downtown of the city against the CBI's move.
