New Delhi, Jan 28 (IBNS): The Centre has decided to appoint S Jaishankar as the country's new Foreign Secretary, media reports said.

He will replace Sujatha Singh.

Jaishankar is currently appointed as India's Ambassador to the US.

"The reason for the sudden reshuffle is not yet known. Singh's new posting is also not known but she has not been able complete her term," CNN-IBN reported.

National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah welcomed the move as he tweeted: "If the reports about Indian Ambassador to US Jaishankar being appointed Foreign Secretary are correct it's an excellent decision. Remember him from my days as MoS MEA & he was Amb in Prague. He's a top notch diplomat & will make an excellent FS no doubt about it."
