Rift between Supreme Court judges and CJI not resolved: A-G Venugopal
New Delhi, Jan 16 (IBNS): Disputing his own statement on Monday, Attorney General of India KK Venugopal has said that the rift between the four senior Supreme Court judges and the Chief Justice of India is yet to be resolved, media reports said.
Taking a complete U-turn in the Supreme Court issue, Venugopal told media that the rift will require another 2-3 days to resolve.
The A-G even said he had not met any of the four judges.
On Monday, the AG said the dispute has been resolved at a customary meeting between the judges and the CJI at 10.45 a.m..
After turning rebel against Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra in the last weekend, four senior judges of the Supreme Court resumed their work on Monday.
In an unprecedented press meet, the four senior most judges of the SC- Justices Jasti Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoi, Madan B Lokur and Kurian Joseph- revolted against the CJI on Friday alleging that the administration of the country's highest court was not in order.
Alleging that that the CJI had been assigning cases of far reaching consequences to preferred judges, the quartet said democracy in the country would not survive unless the institution was preserved.
The judges said they had approached Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra with a complaint letter but failed to convince him.
Questions were raised against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah's acquittal in Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.
