Rebel Congress leader Roshan Baig detained at Bengaluru Airport in connection with Ponzi scam
Bengaluru, July 16 (IBNS): Rebel Congress leader Roshan Baig was detained at Bengaluru Airport on Tuesday in connection with the multi-crore IMA Ponzi scam, said Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on micro-blogging site Twitter.
Kumaraswamy has also alleged that a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator was also present with Baig at the airport but fled upon seeing a Special Investigating Team (SIT).
The Chief Minister tweeted, "Today SIT probing the #IMA case detained @rroshanbaig for questioning at the BIAL airport while he was trying leave along with @BSYBJP's PA Santosh on a chartered flight to Mumbai. I was told that on seeing the SIT, Santhosh ran away while the team apprehended Mr. Baig."

He added in the second tweet, "BJP's Yogeshwar was present at the time there.Its a shame that @BJP4Karnataka is helping a former minister escape, who is facing a probe in the #IMA case. This clearly shows #BJP' s direct involvement in destabilizing the govt through horse trading."

Karnataka crisis
Sixteen rebel ruling Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) MLAs have submitted their resignations to Speaker Ramesh Kumar. After the Speaker did not accept their resignations, few of the rebel MLAs had approached the Supreme Court which had directed them to submit the resignation letters to Ramesh Kumar for the second time.
Two independent MLAs have also withdrew their support to the Kumaraswamy government.
The top court, however, last week asked the Speaker to maintain the status quo till Tuesday.
The hearing of the MLAs plea will take place on Tuesday.
A trust vote, which has been sought by Kumaraswamy in the assembly, will take place on Thursday.
The BJP, which has been accused of disturbing the Congress-JDS government in the state, denied any role behind the crisis.
Number game in the Assembly
If the resignations of the rebel and independent MLAs are accepted, the Congress-JDS will become a minority government, enabling the BJP, which has 105 seats, to assume power.
Along with the support of independent MLAs, the Congress-JDS had 118 lawmakers in their favour in the 224-member House.
If the resignations of all rebel 16 MLAs are accepted, the majority mark will fall from 113 to 105.
