Raincoat comment: Prabhu comes to PM's rescue

New Delhi, Feb 9 (IBNS): Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu took to social media to show solidarity with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after the latter faced a backlash from the opposition for his alleged 'raincoat' comment.

As both the houses were adjourned following protests from opposition MPs, Prabhu tweeted that one cannot question the Prime Minister.

He also reminded the opposition that the BJP came into power following a clear mandate in the 2014 general elections.

"Office of @PMOIndia is sacrosanct, must be respected by all,he heads democratically elected Govt.@narendramodi has huge mandate, won majority," his tweet read.

Earlier,  Congress leader Anand Sharma condemned the PM and called his comments ''shameful''.

He was joined by other opposition parties, including the CPI-M, AIADMK and TMC.

The opposition members also trooped into the well in  Rajya Sabha and shouted slogans.

As chaos continued stalling normal proceedings, the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 11.30 am and Rajya Sabha till 12 noon.

The PM had created a stir among the Opposition on Wednesday when he took a dig at his predecessor Manmohan Singh for staying clean despite series of scam during UPA rule.

“Even though many scams took place in the country, Singh’s image remained clean,” Modi had  said in Rajya Sabha, adding, “People should learn from Dr. Singh how to bathe in bathroom wearing a raincoat.”
