Railways initiates major cleanliness drive

New Delhi, June 13 (IBNS) The Ministry of Railways on Friday said the Indian Railways has decided to undertake a two week major cleanliness drive at all important stations and in passenger carrying trains across the country.
"Objective of this drive is to make a visible impact in the passenger areas on cleanliness. Chairman, Railway Board, Shri Arunendra Kumar, has directed all Zonal Railways to take up this campaign in the right earnest," the Ministry said in a statement.
 
"This major drive includes cleanliness of platforms, toilets at platforms, waiting and retiring rooms and other areas where there is passenger interaction. Circulating areas will also be cleaned and unclaimed vehicles to be towed away. Pre-paid taxi areas should also be attended," it said.
 
Under this drive, white-washing of stations will be done including the concourse.
 
Water booths and drains at stations especially in passenger areas will be covered and water leakage also to be attended.
 
Trains passing through stations and originating from stations also proposed to be cleaned thoroughly.
 
Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) will check one station everyday for the next two weeks.
 
"Additional General Managers (AGMs) of the concerned Zonal Railways will also inspect the stations for cleanliness. Daily progress report in this regard will be sent by all Zonal Railways to Railway Board on regular basis through email. General Managers of all Zonal Railways will personally monitor and supervise this cleanliness and undertake periodic inspections themselves," read the statement.
