Rahul Gandhi accuses BJP govt of giving 'patronage' to drug mafia in Gujarat

New Delhi/UNI: The Congress on Monday accused the "double engine government" at the Centre and in Gujarat of giving “patronage to the drug-liquor mafia” and forcing youths into drugs.

Taking to Twitter, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi said, “Who are the people sitting in the double engine government who are constantly giving patronage to the drug-liquor mafia? Why are the youth of Gujarat being forced into drugs?".

His remarks come in the wake of drugs intercepted from Mundra port, and 42 people from Botad and Ahmedabad districts lost their lives after consuming spurious liquor on July 25. Ninety-seven people are still in hospitals in Bhavnagar, Botad and Ahmedabad.

The Wayanad MP said, “Mafia has no fear of law? Or is this a mafia government?”.

Echoing a similar sentiment, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi attacked the BJP government and claimed that drugs worth around Rs 22,000 crore were intercepted three times from the said port in Gujarat.

She accused the government of being lethargic, and also asked why all the government agencies were silent.

"Across the country, the mafia is distributing drugs under the nose of the BJP government. Is the law and order helpless or is there collusion with the mafia?, " the Congress leader asked.
