Punjab : CLP authorises Sonia Gandhi to select its leader

Chandigarh/UNI: The crucial Punjab Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting on Saturday authorised Congress President Sonia Gandhi to select its leader.

Announcing this here on Saturday evening, former Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Rawat, in-charge of Punjab party affairs, said two resolutions were passed in the CLP meeting held at the PPCC office here.

He said in one resolution, Punjab CLP authorised Congress chief Sonia Gandhi to select its leader and in another resolution the CLP appreciated the outgoing CLP leader who headed the Punjab government with utmost ability, gave good governance to the state, faced and handled the challenges.

The AICC general secretary said, "We will inform about the next CLP leader once it is conveyed to us by the Congress President."
As many as 78 Congress MLAs out of 80 legislators attended the CLP meeting.

AICC observers Ajay Maken and Harish Choudhary and in-charge Punjab party affairs Harish Rawat were also present during the CLP meeting.
