Pune IAS officer accused of sexual assault on minors

Pune, Mar 20(IBNS) A senior IAS officer, arrested on charges of molestation and rape of four minors, was on Friday sent to police custody for 11 days.

M H Sawant, the 58-year-old officer has also been suspended from the service.

Sawant, who was Director General of the Maharashtra Council of Agricultural Education and Research (MCAER), has been charged under various sections, including 376 (rape) and 354 (molestation) of the Indian Penal Code.

, sections 6, 8 and 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and section 67(a), (b) of the Information Technology Act, at the Singhad Road police station in Pune.

Police said the children, belonging to poor families, used to play in the parking lot at the officer's apartment complex. The allegedly indulged in sexual misconduct with the children after calling them inside his house.

He also  allegedly also showed them sexually explicit videos on his computer.

The matter was revealed after the children reported it to their school counsellor, who in turn, informed the principal.
