New Delhi: India has promised all possible assistance in the probe into the shocking murder of four Indian-origin family members in California.

Terming the incident "shocking", Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that the Indian mission in San Francisco is following up on the matter with local authorities.

"The police officers of Merced County are actively probing the criminal act. Our Embassy is also following the developments and is in contact with the family. We will continue to provide all possible assistance. This is a shocking incident," Bagchi said.

Seeking intervention from the Ministry of External Affairs in the case, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also appealed to EAM S Jaishankar to conduct a high-level inquiry into the death of the Indian-origin family that was kidnapped and later found dead in California.

The bodies of the family members- Jasdeep Singh (36), Jasleen Kaur (27), their eight-month-old daughter, and Amandeep Singh (39)- were found on Wednesday in an orchard near Indiana Road and Hutchinson Road.

The family hailed from the Hoshiarpur district of Punjab.
