Produce 4 kids: Sakshi Maharaj

| | Jan 07, 2015, at 09:14 pm
Meerut, Jan 7 (IBNS): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Sakshi Maharaj has triggered a controversy by saying that Hindu women should give birth to four children.

Addressing a gathering on Tuesday, the BJP leader said: " We have accepted the slogan 'Hum do, hamare ek'. But these traitors are not satisfied with it. They have given another slogan 'Hum do aur hamara. They even advocated marriage of a girl to a girl and of a boy to another boy. This is what the last government did...Hence, I will  request women to give birth to at least four children."

"Give one of the children to sadhus. The media was telling me that there are ceasefire violations happening at the border. So, send another to the border," he said.

The Congress hit out at the leader for his remarks and questioned whether the Centre has formed a new  'population policy'.

Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi told media: "Is the Indian population policy being changed? Why has the Prime Minister maintained silence for 24 hours? Why has the Home Minister, the party president, the Finance Minister maintained silence on the issue. Is this the new population policy? The nation wants to know. We are waiting for an answer. We are confident that no answer will come."

Sakshi Maharaj had earlier sparked off a controversy by calling Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse a patriot.

He later apologised in the Parliament for his remarks.
