Problem of call drops is more severe indoors, says DoT

New Delhi, Apr 6 (IBNS): Union Ministry of Communications & Information Technology said on Thursday that the problem of call drops in mobile networks is more severe indoors.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) said in a release on Thursday that it has been taking various initiatives to address the problem of call drops in mobile networks.

The Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) have installed about 2,12,917 additional Base Transceiver Stations (BTSs) across the country from June 2016 to February 2017, it said.

To obtain direct feedback from subscribers, DoT had launched an Integrated Voice Response System (IVRS) system in Delhi, Mumbai, UP, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra and Goa in December 2016, which was extended to other states in January 2017, except in Punjab and Manipur.

The IVRS system was launched in Punjab and Manipur in March.

Through this system, subscribers receive an IVRS call from short code 1955 and are asked a few questions on the call drop problem.

Users can also send a toll-free SMS to the same short code 1955, containing the name of city/town/village, where they face frequent call drops, DoT said.
