Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will not fight from Varanasi

| @indiablooms | Apr 25, 2019, at 01:24 pm

New Delhi, Apr 25 (IBNS): Ending speculations of the Congress fielding Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from Varanasi, the Grand Old Party today announced to field Ajay Rai as its candidate from the constituency where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the BJP candidate.

In the same notification, the party also announced to field Madhusudan Tiwari from the Gorakhpur seat.

Modi is scheduled to hold a mega roadshow in Varanasi on Thursday and file his nomination papers on Friday.

"I will leave you in suspense. Suspense is not always a bad thing," Congress president Rahul Gandhi had told The Hindu newspaper last week when asked if Priyanka would be fielded against Modi.

In 2014, Ajay Rai had fought from the same constituency and finished a poor third with only around 75,000 votes. Aam Aadmi Party's Arvind Kejriwal came second with around two lakh votes while Modi scored 5.8 lakh votes to win the seat.
