New Delhi/UNI: The Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday notified that President's Rule has been imposed in Puducherry.

"I am satisfied that a situation has arisen in which the administration of the Union territory of Puducherry cannot be carried on in accordance with the provisions of the Government of Union Territories Act, 1963 (20 of 1963)," the notification signed by President Ram Nath Kovind read.

It also said that the Legislative Assembly of the said Union territory is hereby placed under suspended animation.

The UT government, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, fell after it lost the confidence vote in the territorial Assembly on Monday.

On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet recommended the imposition of President's Rule in the Union Territory after Lieutenant-Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan wrote to the Centre on the issue.
