President confers Indira Gandhi National Service Scheme Awards

New Delhi, Nov 19 (IBNS): President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday conferred the Indira Gandhi National Service Scheme Awards for the year 2013-14 to 53 institutions and individuals at a function at Darbar Hall of the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India is the nodal ministry for the awards.

Indira Gandhi National Service Scheme Awards are conferred every year since 2012 for recognising the outstanding work done by NSS volunteers, NSS Units and Programme Officers and the Universities/+2 Councils.

The awards are given in 4 categories.

University/+ 2 Council category award carries a cash award of Rs. 2 lakhs ( for NSS Programme Development) with a trophy to the University/+ 2 Council. A certificate and a silver medal to the Programme Coordinator. Only one award is given in this category.

Upcoming University/+ 2 Council category award carries a cash award of Rs. 1 lakh( for NSS Programme Development) with a trophy to the University/+ 2 Council. A certificate and a silver medal to the Programme Coordinator. Only one award is given in this category.

NSS Units and Programme Officers category award carries Rs. 70,000 to each NSS Unit(for NSS Programme Development) with a trophy. Rs. 20,000 to each Programme Officer with a certificate and a silver medal. Only 20 awards are given in this category.

NSS volunteers category awards carries a cash award of Rs 15,000 to each Volunteer, with a certificate and a silver medal. Only 30 awards are given in this category

In addition to the above, Certificates of Appreciation are sometimes given to a very limited number of nominees.
