A pregnant rape victim has been allegedly burnt alive by the accused's mother in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri district under Kuravali police station, media reports said.

Her mother revealed that the girl was raped three months ago by one Abhishek, who lives in the same village, but the victim did not relate her ordeal to her parents, reported India Today.

It was after she complained of severe stomach pain that her family came to know of her pregnancy.

The matter was then reported to the local panchayat, which decided on October 6 that the girl and the accused woud be married.

Afte the decision, the mother of the accused took the girl to her house, sprinkled petrol on the victim and tried to burn her to death, the family of the victim has accused.

She was admitted to a district hospital in Mainpuri with severe burn injuries and was later referred to Saifai, said the report.

Based on the complaint of the victim's mother, police have filed a case under sections 307, 376 of the IPC and relevant sections of the Pocso Act, it said.

The accused are being searched for and arrests will be made soon, police said, added the report.
