Kottayam, Sept 2 (UNI) Pollution due to dust particles in the atmosphere is higher in Kottayam, Kochi, Kannur, Palakkad and Wayanad, a study by the School of Environmental Sciences of Mahatma Gandhi University revealed here on Monday.

According to the study, the atom particles in the atmosphere was more at Vyttila in Kochi followed by K K Road in Kottayam, Kannur, Kanchikode in Palakkad, Sulthan Bathery in Wayanad and Thiruvananthapuram.

The main reason for the pollution, emission from vehicles, burning of waste in public places and the ongoing construction activities.

Though the pollution level in rural areas was less, in some places it is higher due to the burning of plastics.

In the majority of the districts, the level of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide was within limits, the study said.
