Political clash in Mandya ahead of Lok Sabha polls injures three JD(S) workers

Mandya, Apr 8 (UNI): With election campaign coming to a boil ahead of Apr 18 phase polls in 14 Lok Sabha segments in Karnataka, the state is witnessing political skirmish and it turned worse when Janata Dal (Secular) and supporters of independent candidate Sumalatha clashed in Mandya segment leaving three JD(S) workers injured.

The incident was reported from Gurudevanahalli in this sugar bowl of Karnataka late Sunday night.

Sumalatha, supported by the BJP is involving in a direct fight with Nikhil K of JD(S) and son of chief minister H D Kumaraswamy in a high stakes clash.

According to police sources, the injured were admitted into a hospital in Mandya and a case has been registered into the incident.

The injured, who were going on a motorcycle were honking continuously which irritated a group in the village where Sumalatha was addressing a village corner public meeting.

Nikhil, who had visited the hospital where the injured are being treated, appealed the party workers to stay calm and not to get emotional over the incident and assured that the guilty will be punished by law enforcement officials.

It is the first ever poll related incident in the high-voltage campaigning being witnessed in Mandya Lok Sabha seat.

No arrest had been made so far in the incident, a police official said.
