Kolkata, Apr 21 (IBNS): The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday ordered a police case against TMC leader Rezzak Mollah for passing controversial remarks on the personal lifestyle of actress turned BJP leader Roopa Ganguly.

The ECI  on Wednesday issued a show cause notice to expelled CPI-M leader turned TMC poll candidate Rezzak Mollah for his remarks against the actress.

Rezzak Mollah has also tendered his apology for the comments.

"I am repentant," he said in a video and  apologized to Roopa Ganguly.

"I am really sorry for making personal remarks against Roopa Ganguly, I apologise," he said.

After the apology, TMC lawmaker and spokesperson Derek O'Brien ‏tweeted: "Proud of veteran politician &  my new colleague Rezzak saheb. It takes courage to say sorry #respect."

According to reports, Rezzak Mollah was asked, in the ECI show cause notice, to explain why did he say such words. He was directed to give his reply as soon as possible.

"After watching video footage, we have issued a show cause notice to Rezzak Mollah. We will take further steps, after receiving his reply," one officer of ECI told IBNS.

Speaking to Bengali news channel ABP Ananda, Mollah said about the BJP candidate from Howrah North: "I know how long is the size of the cigarette she smokes or with whom she lives in."

"How much she is Draupadi we all know," said Mollah taking a jibe at Ganguly who earned fame as an actress when she had bagged the role of Draupadi in B R Chopra's Mahabharat aired on Indian television since 1988.

When asked about the remark, Roopa Ganguly told IBNS, "I don't have time to comment on such nonsense statement."
