PM Narendra Modi reviews progress of tribal welfare programmes

New Delhi, June 15 (IBNS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday called for enhanced convergence among various schemes aimed at welfare of tribal communities across the country.

Chairing a high-level review meeting on tribal welfare initiatives including Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana, the Prime Minister stressed on improving the outcomes of various interventions for tribal welfare.

The Prime Minister said various wings of the Government of India, and the states, should work in coordination to meet the targeted objectives within specified timeframes.

Modi enquired about the progress in mapping of sickle cell anaemia among the tribal population.

He also sought to know the impact of the Jan Dhan Yojana and recently launched social security schemes, on the tribal communities.

He reiterated his earlier suggestion about exploring the possibility of a Tribal Cultural Troupe Carnival.

Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram and senior officials were present on the occasion.
