PM Modi to addres first NITI Aayog meeting today

| | Feb 06, 2015, at 04:07 pm
New Delhi, Feb 6 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with eminent economists and experts in the first meeting of newly-constituted NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) on Friday, media reports said.

The meeting will also be attended by the existing members of the panel. NITI Aayog had replaced the 65-year old Planning Commission on January 1.

Sources said that PM Modi will bring clarity on the issue whether the NITI Aayog will be recognised as a government body or play the role of an economic think-tank in the days to come for revenue generation and expenditure realisation.

There will be over 40 participants in the meeting including eminent economists and the session will be chaired by the PM.

The first vice-chairman of the NITI Aayog, Arvind Panagariya, and full time members like Bibek Debroy and V K Saraswat joined the body last month.
