PM Modi praises CoWIN amid tussle with UK over COVID-19 vaccine registration
New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday praised the CoWIN days after the United Kingdom had raised questions over the web portal, which is used for online registration and certification of anti-COVID-19 vaccine in the South Asian country.
"Co-WIN has a huge role in our anti-COVID19 vaccination drive. No other country has such a system," said the Prime Minister, launching the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission virtually.
The UK last week raised questions over the CoWIN certificate, further escalating the bilateral tension over anti-COVID-19 vaccine approvals.
The two countries had locked horns after the UK refused to include Oxford University's Indian version of vaccine, Covishield, to only approve it later following a warning of a reciprocation by New Delhi.
The UK last Wednesday revised its travel advisory and included Covishield, manufactured by Serum Institute of India (SII), in the list of vaccines accepted in the country.
However, travellers from India will have to get quarantined upon reaching the UK despite getting vaccinated with Covishield.
