New Delhi, Aug 20 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid tribute to his predecessor Rajiv Gandhi on the latter's birth anniversary.

"Remembering former PM Rajiv Gandhi ji on his birth anniversary," PM Modi tweeted.

Gandhi was born in 1944.

He served as the sixth Prime Minister of India from 1984 to 1989, before he was assassinated in Sriperumbudur.

The incumbent Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is known to quote Gandhi in several of his Parliament debates to take on the Congress and its top brass.
