New Delhi/UNI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed happiness over the signing of the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) with Assam's militant outfit Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA).

A tripartite pact was signed with DNLA, in presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah at North Block here on Thursday.

In response to a tweet by Union Home Minister Amit Shah mentioning the same, the PM said, "Very good news for peace and progress in the Northeast."

Shah in his tweet wrote, "Another momentous day for Northeast. The Government of Assam and Dimasa National Liberation Army signed a peace accord today for permanent peace. "

He said the DNLA has laid down arms expressing trust in the way the PM has established peace and ensured development in the region.

On Thursday, Shah announced a Rs 1,000 crore economic package, Rs 500 crore each from the central government and State government for rehabilitation of the surrendered militants of DNLA.

The DNLA announced the extension of unilateral ceasefire by another six months from April to September 30.

In September 2021, the DNLA in response to the CM's demand for peace had declared a unilateral ceasefire for a period of six months.
