PM Modi congratulates Waheeda Rehman for being conferred with Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Waheeda Rehman on being conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award.

Hailing her as a 'beacon of talent, dedication and grace', Modi said Rehman's journey in Indian cinema has left an indelible mark.

Sharing a post on X by Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Shri Anurag Thakur, the Prime Minister said:

“Delighted that Waheeda Rehman Ji has been honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award. Her journey in Indian cinema has left an indelible mark. A beacon of talent, dedication and grace, she embodies the best of our cinematic heritage. Congratulations to her.”

From playing a sex worker in Pyaasa to the rebellious Rosie in Guide, Rahman had essayed roles that were unconventional and ahead of her time.

Rehman made her acting debut with the Telugu film Rojulu Marayi (1955). She has featured in many films such as Pyaasa (1957), Guide (1965), Khamoshi (1969), Phagun (1973), Kabhi Kabhie (1976), Chandni (1989), Lamhe (1991), Rang De Basanti (2006), and Delhi 6 (2009) among many others.
