New Delhi, Apr 22 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday condemned the terror attack which claimed at least 70 Afghan soldiers in Afghanistan's Mazar-e-Sharif city of Balkh province.

"Strongly condemn the cowardly terror attack in Mazar-i-sharif. Our prayers and condolences to the familes who lost loved ones," the Prime Minister's tweet read.

The attack has been owned by Taliban, who used suicide bombers to carry out the carnage,

The incident, which started on Friday afternoon, continued for several hours before the militants were shot dead by army-men.

A military spokesperson was quoted as saying in the media that the militants entered the base wearing army uniform.

They initiated the carnage after driving through the military checkpoints.

The Mazar-e-Sharif base is home to 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan army, responsible for guarding the northern part of the country.
