Plea filed in SC challenging constitutional validity of certain Section of Representatives of People's Act

New Delhi/UNI: Following the disqualification of senior Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi as an MP, a plea has been filed in the Supreme Court, by a social worker, challenging the constitutional validity of Section 8(3) of the Representatives of People's (RP) Act.

Advocate Deepak Prakash filed the petition on behalf of Aabha Muralidharan, a social worker from Malappuram, before the Supreme Court.

The plea filed before the Supreme Court by social worker Abha Mulridharan, from Malappuram, said that automatic disqualification of People's representatives of elected legislative bodies, after conviction is illegal.

Her lawyer, Deepak Praksh said that yes, her client, Abha Mulridharan, an social activist from Malappuram has filed the petition before the Supreme Court.

Prakash said that he is hopeful that the plea would be listed soon for hearing in the Supreme Court.

It is to be noted that after Rahul Gandhi was sentenced to two year jail sentence in a criminal defamation case, this plea has been filed before the Supreme Court.
