PIL likely on missing names on voter list

Mumbai, Apr 28 (IBNS) A Mumbai based lawyer Mohan Jaykar is likely to file a Public-Interest Litigation (PIL) in a local court seeking an investigation into missing names on the voter list in the city.

Election Commissioner HS Brahma on Friday admitted lapses on their part and apologized for the missing names on voter lists across India.

"I apologise firstly that such a large number of our Indian voters were unable to cast their votes," Brahma told CNN-IBN.

"Once we declare result of 2014 we will go for fresh enumeration. We have to find out how it has happened. I have not seen this kind of massive operational mistake. I can't understand how so many names can be missing," he said.

Brahma said the lapses occurred due to lack of supervision and coordination.

"This unauthorised deletion happened due to lack of supervision on the ground. I think it could have happened at the ground level due to lack of co-ordination. This is a lapse on our part, we should acknowledge and rectify our mistake," he told the news channel.

Pertinently, around six lakh names were reportedly missing on the voters list as Mumbai voted on Thursday.
