New Delhi/IBNS: A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking menstrual leave for female students and working women across the country, media reports said.

The petition, which has been filed by Advocate Shailendra Mani Tripathi, has cited a university study that has stated the menstrual pain which women undergo is equal to that of a heart attack.

The PIL has also cited the menstrual leaves granted by some Indian companies.

It has stated that menstrual pain reduces an employee's productivity and also affects one's work.
