Patna boat tragedy: BJP alleges Nitish Kumar govt is discriminating against Hindus

Patna, Jan 15 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): The main opposition BJP on Sunday accused the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar of discriminating against the majority Hindus.

“The state government spent a whopping Rs 200 crore (Rs 2 billion) on hosting Prakash Parva and also took personal interest in arranging Kalchakra puja but didn’t spent a reasonable sum for the Hindu festival of Makar Sankranti,” senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi alleged at a press conference here.

Prakash Parva was organized at Patna to commemorate the 350th birth anniversary of Sikh’s 10th Guru whereas Kalchakra puja was organized for the Buddhists at Bodh Gaya.

Both these events passed off on a happy note as the state government had made adequate arrangements for them. The chief minister himself had monitored the arrangements of the events.

“Why the chief minister adopted insensitive attitude towards the festival of Hindus?” asked Modi, suggesting the CM for owning moral responsibility for the boat tragedy.

He also questioned the rationale of the state government in assigning the task of probe to the officials who are being blamed for the tragedy by the victim families.

Modi launched attack on the state government after an overcrowded boat sank in river Ganga last evening, killing 25 people. He said all the victims belonged to the poor families.
