New Delhi/IBNS:Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at a high-level meeting on Wednesday that the supply of oxygen in the country is over three times compared to the level at the peak of the first wave of coronavirus.

The prime minister chaired a review meeting on Wednesday on the availability and supply of oxygen and medicines.

He said that production of all drugs, including Remdesivir, has increased significantly over the past few weeks amid the country-wide surge in Covid-19 cases.

PM Narendra Modi also emphasised that states are being supplied all necessary medicines in good quantities and the Centre is constantly working with the manufacturers to scale up their production and providing all assistance needed.

The central government is actively monitoring the supply of drugs for the management of Covid-19 and mucormycosis, a rare fungal infection surfacing in some parts of the country, a statement released by the PMO noted.

The PM also stressed that India has a very vibrant pharma sector and the governments continued close coordination with them will ensure the proper availability of all medicines.

He also spoke about the operations of oxygen express trains and IAF plane sorties as well as the status of procurement of oxygen concentrators, oxygen cylinders as well as the status of plants being installed across the country to treat critical coronavirus patients.
