Over 100 FIRs filed against journalist Arnab Goswami in Chhattisgarh

Raipur/UNI: Congress workers in all 28 districts of Chhattisgarh lodged FIR against Republic TV Anchor and Editor Arnab Goswami for his alleged derogatory remarks against Congress president Sonia Gandhi and inciting people for communal rights.

Total 101 complaints were lodged with police against Goswami till Thursday afternoon.

According to police sources, Senior Congress leader and Minister in Chhattisgarh Government TS Singhdeo and Pradesh Congress President Mohan Markam lodged complaint against Arnab Goswami with Civil Line Police Station Raipur late yesterday evening, reported UNI news agency.

Subsequently FIRs were registered against Arnab Goswami all over the state.

Highest 12 FIRs were registered in Durg which is the home district of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu.

Singhdeo and Markam in their FIR said that anchor and editor of said news channel Arnab Goswami tried to incite public sentiment on communal lines in television debate programme ‘Puchhta Hai Bharat’ over recent incident of mob lynching of Sadhus in Palghar area of Maharashtra.

Goswami also tried to create atmosphere of hatred among various communities of the country, they alleged and said that during debate he made derogatory remarks against Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

In another FIR lodged in the capital, City Congress President Girish Dubey alleged that Goswami misrepresented the suggestions given by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for the prevention of corona virus disease at a press conference on April 16 and aired false news on his channel. This was violation of orders issued under Epidemic Act 1897, Mr Dubey alleged in his complaint.

Almost all the FIRs in the state were filed with the same allegation. The police have filed a case against Arnab Goswami, ARG Media Pvt Ltd and Republic Bharat TV under sections 153A, 295A, and 505 (2) of IPC.

The police have already initiated an investigation into the matter.
