Order in my name—I'm not aware: Bengal Guv hits out at Mamata govt over KMC appointments
Kolkata/IBNS: A day after a Board of Administrators under Firhad Bobby Hakim took over the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) as its tenure ended and civic polls were deferred due to Covid-19 outbreak, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday slammed the state government for not informing him anything about the development.
"Appreciating sentiments of people ignoring a lot- surely can’t compromise on constitution. Order in my name-am not aware. No consultation or informattion. Where are we heading! Defiance to central directives unfortunate. Time for change-act as per law for the sake of people," Jagdeep Dhankhar wrote on microblogging site Twitter.
Posting a series of tweets, Jagdeep Dhankhar claimed that he had asked West Bengal Chief Secretary to forward him the state notification of appointing KMC board of administrators.
"Sent to Chief Secretary- 'The notification dated May 06 about Kolkata Municipal Corporation is yet to be made available. From every consideration this should have been sent to Raj Bhawan without delay. This notification is widely in circulation in media," Governor tweeted.

"Chief Secretary called upon to urgently forward notification May 06 as also the entire decision making process, including the authority that has taken this decision. Priority be given its constitutional repercussions impacting bodies subject to Part IX A of Constitution," Dhankhar wrote on Twitter.
Hours later, Jagdeep Dhankhar tweeted again saying that he received no response from state Chief Secretary and asking Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to share the information as under Article 167 it is “duty” of Chief Minister to furnish information to Governor.
"In the absence of response from Chief Secretary, have sought @MamataOfficial information as regards Kolkata Municipal Corporation order dated May 06,2020. Under Article 167 it is “duty” of Chief Minister to furnish information to Governor. The order has huge ramifications," Dhankhar wrote on Twitter.

Earlier on Wednesday, West Bengal government appointed former Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim as the Chairman of 14-member Administrative Board to run the KMC.
Meanwhile, challenging the appointment of the KMC administration board, a resident of north Kolkata on Thursday moved a petition before the Calcutta High Court.
According to sources, the petition has been registered and the matter is likely to be heard next week.
