Jammu/UNI: The Kalakote operation was called off in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, after the elimination of an unidentified terrorist and recovery of large quantity of arms and ammunition, including Pakistan-made anti-personnel mines.

''On Thursday at around 1600 hrs, a joint CASO was launched by Rashtriya Rifle troops with SOG and local police,'' Mukesh Singh, IGP Jammu Zone, said.

When the personnel were walking towards Panjah Mehari area of Kalakote tehsil at 1830 hrs, the militants started firing. The security forces retaliated and an encounter ensued between them, leading to the death of a terrorist.

At 1900 hrs, the operation was called off. The area has been cordoned off and the body of the slain militant has been shifted to GMC Rajouri, added the IGP.
He said during searches, an AK-47 rifle, three magazines, 58 ammunition of AK-47, four Chinese hand grenades, four anti-personnel mines (Pakistan-made), one pouch, four detonators, among others, were recovered.

A case under Sections 307, 120 B, 121 and 122 IPC, apart from Sections 7/25/271 of Arms Act has been registered,  Singh added.
