The attack took place in a forest near Khamankol in Baliguda sub-division when the jawans, belonging to the anti-insurgency force, were returning from a combing operation. This led to an exchange of fire.

The martyred jawan has been identified as Laxmikant Jani of Kalahandi.

The injured jawans have been taken to Baliguda hospital with some of them being in a serious state.

A combing operation is going on in the area to nab the Maoists.
