One dead, more than 15 others hurt as fire hits multi-storied building in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, Jul 26 (UNI) At least one person died while over 15 sustained injuries after a fire engulfed a multi-storied building in Jagatpur-Gota area of Ahmedabad city on Friday.

A fire official had to be taken hospital due to smoke inhalation.

Overall more than 30 people have either been rescued or else came out of the building safely at their own.

The fire broke out in a flat on the 5 th/6th floor of the 11 storied building in Ganesh Genesis housing society near Jagatpur crossing. The dense smoke spread up to seventh floor.

Additional Chief Fire Officer of AMC Rajesh Bhatt said that the fire had spread up to 6 th floor. The fire team rescued some people while others came out at their on. In all the number of those who came out was more than 30. People felt difficulty in coming out due to dense smoke in the stair and lift area.

"The fire has been completely controlled. The exact reason was not yet known. It could be short circuit, gas leakage or anything else. 15 people have been sent to hospital of whom 2 were said to be critical," he said.

People trapped on the 4, th 5 th, 6 th, 7 th have all been evacuated. More than 20 fire fighting vehicles were involved in the dousing operation.

Meanwhile, according to official information received from Sola Civil Hospital, a total nine people were taken there of whom one was declared brought dead. Some other injured were in private nursing homes.

A couple of people with fractures were kept in a ninth floor flat in the same building.

Meanwhile, the hydraulic crane ladder of fire team could not work properly due to some reason. Bhatt said that it was big vehicle and needed enough space. There was no technical issue with it.
