New Delhi: Indian PM Narendra Modi addressed the nation on Friday where he congratulated countrymen after 100 crore (1 billion) people were administered COVID-19 vaccines on Thursday.

He mentioned India's achievement of vaccinating 1 billion (100 crore) people against COVID-19.

"On 21st October, India touched the unique feat of vaccinating 100 crore people," he said.

"I am congratulating the entire nation for achieving the feat," he said.

Modi said: "100 crore vaccine doses isn't just a number, but shows our ability as a nation. It pictures New India that knows how to set difficult targets and achieve them."

He said world will now recognize India as a pharma hub more strongly.

"The world is witnessing India's strength today," he said.

He said world has appreciated India's Cowin platform.

He asked people to celebrate the festive season by maintaining 'all precautions'.

India became the second country after China to reach the one billion COVID-19 vaccinations milestone mark.

About 30 percent of the adults in the country of 1.3 billion people have received both the doses of anti-COVID-19 vaccine.

India had witnessed a deadly second wave of the pandemic earlier this year when people struggled to find a place in hospital or even oxygen supply.

The spike in deaths left crematoriums and burial grounds overwhelmed.

India recorded 15,786 new cases in the past 24 hours.
