Odisha: Youth gunned down near Sri Jagannath temple

Puri: A family member of Sri Jagannath temple servitor community was gunned down near the crowded place close to the temple on Tuesday night, police informed on Wednesday.

Puri Superintendnent of Police K Vishal Singh said the accused Chandan Barik has been nabbed and the murder weapon, a mouser, has been recovered from his possession.

Eye witnesses said a bike rider opened fire at Sibram Patra at about a hundred metres away from Simhadwar in front of Kakudikhai temple on Tuesday night and fled from the spot after committing the crime.

Hearing the gunshots people ran helter-skelter in panic. Police and locals rushed the youth to Puri headquarter hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Preliminary reports said that Sibram was hit by two bullets, one hit him on the head and the other on his chest.
