No release of 'Padmavat' in Rajasthan: Vasudhara Raje

Jaipur, Jan 9 (IBNS): Going in sync with  the Rajput Karni Sena, up in arms against 'Padmavat',  Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje clearly on Monday declared a ban on the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial film  in her state, media reports said.

In a statement, Raje said the decision to ban the film has been taken considering the sentiments of the people and the state.

The statement was quoted by Times Of India: " ...Rani Padmini's sacrifice is a matter of honour and pride for the state and hence Rani Padmini is not just a chapter in history but our dignity. We will not allow defamation of her honour."

Few days ago, Shri Rajpur Karni Sena chief Lokendra Singh Kalvi called for a complete ban on Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial film 'Padmavati'.

The Karni Sena chief said the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has overlooked the Rajputs and Muslims.

The CBFC has announced that Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone starrer film will be issued a U/A certificate.

The CBFC suggested the makers of the film to change the title to 'Padmavat'.

'Padmavat' is the name of an epic poem written in the middle ages by Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi.

The film, based on the life of Rajput queen Padmini, has run into trouble with Rajput groups alleging that it distorts history. Deepika has played the role of Rani Padmini in the film.

This forced the makers to defer the release of the film on Dec 1. Now the film is slated to release on Jan 25.

Besides Ranveer and Deepika, the film stars Shahid Kapoor in one of the lead roles.
