No alternative to lockdown if Covid cases continue at the same speed: Maharashtra Health Minister

| @indiablooms | Jan 02, 2022, at 02:36 am

Mumbai/UNI: Maharashtra health Minister Rajesh Tope said Saturday that doubling of Covid-19 cases just in two days is a cause of concern for the state government, and if corona cases continue increasing in the next couple of days, there is no alternative to a lock down.

Yesterday, 5368 cases were recorded in the state while 22 people died of the infection, and the figure is likely to rise to 12,000 today, he said.

The state government has already issued fresh guidelines, prohibiting visits to beaches, while entry to malls has been restricted to 50 percent of the total capacity. Similar restrictions have been imposed on hotels and restaurants.

Further, section 144 of the Indian Penal code (IPC) has been clamped, which prohibits a gathering of more than five people, he added.
