New Delhi, Mar 20 (IBNS): Arrested fugitive jeweller Nirav Modi's wife Ami is now facing "open-ended non-bailable warrant", issued by a special court in Mumbai, media reports said.

The Enforcement Directorate had named Ami Modi for the first time in its supplementary complaint last month.

She is an accused in a money laundering which has a connection to the purchase of a sprawling flat in New York for $30 million.

Nirav Modi's sister Purvi, brothers Nehal and Neeshal, father Deepak Kumar Modi and cousin Miri Bhansali are also accused in the case.

Nirav Modi was arrested in London on Tuesday and his bail appeal was denied by a UK court on Wednesday.

Nirav is a key accused in the Rs 13,600 crore PNB scam.

He was arrested on Tuesday following the arrest warrants by the Westminster court, a government functionary said here, reported UNI news agency.

After the UK court denied his bail, Nirav will need to stay in prison till Mar 29 when the next hearing into the case will take place, reports said.

Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi are the prime accused in the Rs 13,000-crore Punjab National Bank scam involving fake guarantees in the name of the state-run lender to secure loans overseas.

Modi and his uncle Choksi left the country in 2018 before the CBI registered a case against him.

The arrest of the businessman took place at a time when the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is taking all necessary steps to expedite the extradition process of Nirav Modi, sources said on Tuesday.
