Night curfew ends, schools to remain shut till Aug 31, gyms can reopen in Unlock 3

New Delhi/IBNS: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday issued new guidelines for opening up of more activities in areas outside the Containment Zones and removing the 'night curfew' which restricted the movements of individuals during the night.

The new set of guidelines for lifting up restrictions of anti-coronavirus lockdown in the third phase would be effective in the country from Aug 1.

As a part of Unlock 3, the MHA has allowed yoga institutes and gymnasiums to reopen from Aug 5.

"In this regard, Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be issued by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) for ensuring social distancing and to contain the spread of COVID-19," the ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement.

However, it has been decided that schools, colleges and coaching institutions will remain closed till Aug 31.

Large gatherings are still prohibited and hence, metro rail services, cinema halls, swimming pools, entertainment parks, theatres, bars, auditoriums, assembly halls and similar places will remain closed.

Social, political, sports, entertainment, academic, cultural, religious functions and other large congregations have also been prohibited in the new guideline.

The new order comes as India's COVID-19 tally crossed over 15.31 lakhs with the country recording nearly 50,000 fresh cases daily.

The death toll due to the disease has touched a whopping 34,193.

International air travel of passengers will continue to be permitted in a limited manner under the Vande Bharat mission.  "Further opening up will take place in a calibrated manner," the MHA informed.
