NIA arrests top ULFA (I) leader

Guwahati, Jan 20 (IBNS) : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested a top ULFA (I) leader close with Paresh Baruah and its chairman Mukul Hazarika.

The arrested leader of the outfit Gagan Hazarika alias Joydeep Cheleng was produced before the Special NIA court in Guwahati on Friday and court sent him to 6-day police custody.

NIA arrested the self styled Second Lieutenant in the case registered against ULFA(I) in 2013.

“His arrest is likely to throw light on the activities of senior leadership of the ULFA including Chairman Mukul Hazarika and C-in-C Paresh Baruah since he was closely associated with them during their visit, stay at camps of ULFA in Myanmar,” NIA said in a press release.

The arrested ULFA (I) leader was joined the outfit group in 2008.
