New Delhi, May 24 (IBNS): Union Minister Smriti Irani came out all guns blazing this time and registered a thumping victory against Congress president Rahul Gandhi, a result which was not expected by the members of the grand old party of India.

Smriti on Friday not only thanked people of the constituency but also said that Amethi is witnessing a new morning today.

In Hindi, she tweeted, "A new morning for Amethi, a new pledge. You placed your trust in development, grateful to Amethi."

Amethi was considered as a Gandhi bastion.

Rahul Gandhi was a sitting MP from Amethi. Smriti defeated her by over 55,000 votes.

He will still sit in the Parliament as a MP from Wayanad.

Rahul registered a massive victory in the seat where he contested for the first time in his political career.
