New lab report stokes Dadri meat debate; police says will not affect lynching case
Hindustan Times, citing documents accessed by it on Tuesday, said that a report prepared by a forensic laboratory has confirmed that the meat found in Dadri lynching victim Mohammad Ikhlaq’s house was from a “cow or its progeny."
Jan Mohammed, brother of Dadri lynching victim Mohammad Ikhlaq, who was interviewed by NDTV said that while the first report, which was widely quoted in the print and online media had said the meat found was mutton and not beef. He alleged that some people are trying to "politicalise" the issue.
Akhlaq was beaten to death and his 22-year-old son Danish critically injured when a mob barged into their house in Greater Noida's Dadri alleging that the family had consumed beef.
Cow slaughter is banned in Uttar Pradesh but not consumption of beef.
In the report issued by the chief veterinary officer of Uttar Pradesh government it was said that the meat piece found in Akhlaq's refrigerator was mutton, not beef, media reported.
The incident, which occurred in September last year, had created a stir throughout the country.
