Nation pays homage to veteran leader Babu Jagjivan Ram on his death anniversary

New Delhi, Jul 6 (IBNS): Leaders from various quarters remembered veteran leader Babu Jagjivan Ram on his death anniversary on Thursday, according to media reports.

 "Tributes to Babu Jagjivan Ram on his Punya Tithi. We will always remember his contribution towards empowerment of the poor & marginalised," tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Former Speaker Meira Kumar is the daughter of the late veteran leader. The Opposition has nominated her as their candidate for the upcoming election for the President of India.

Meira Kumar on Thursday visited paid homage at Rajghat and Samta Sthal, the samadhis of Mahatma Gandhi and her father, Babu Jagjivan Ram (5 April 1908 – 6 July 1986).

"A reservoir of strength & courage, Babuji taught me to confront challenges & fight for my principles," she tweeted.

Rahul Gandhi, through his twitter handle Office of RG, said, "My tribute to Babu Jagjivan Ramji on his punya tithi, an extraordinary leader who dedicated his life to fighting injustice & discrimination."

Siddaramaiah, Karnataka Chief Minister said on his official page of CM of Karnataka, "My humble tributes to the great social reformer & champion of Dalit rights - Babu Jagjivan Ram on his death anniversary today."
