New Delhi, June 15 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated President Pranab Mukherjee for being conferred the highest national award of Côte d’Ivoire.

"Congratulations to Rashtrapatiji on being conferred Grande Croix Commandeur in National Merit Order, highest national award of Côte d’Ivoire," Modi tweeted.

Pranab Mukherjee received the highest national honour, the Grande Croix Commandeur in National Merit Order, from the President of Cote d’Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara, on Tuesday.

National Order of the Cote d’Ivoire, the highest civilian award of the West African country, was presented by Alassane Ouattara, at a banquet hosted in President Mukherjee's honour, at Presidential Palace, in Abidjan.

Speaking after the occasion, President Mukherjee said he was accepting it with humility on behalf of the one billion plus Indians.

" I feel greatly honoured, Excellency, by your gesture of conferring on me the National Order of the Republic of Ivory Coast. I consider it to be emblematic of the long standing mutual friendship between the peoples of our two countries," said Mukherjee.
